Yes, this 1939 Delahaye 135M Cabriolet needs a lot of work, but this example is one of only two ever made with coachwork by Letourneur et Marchand–and the other one has been lost to time.
Much of the history of this car is a mystery. What is known is that Delahaye ordered the coachwork for this 135M and its sister car directly from Letourneur et Marchand.
The new owner took delivery of the Delahaye in September 1939, right after World War II broke out.
Records for the car only reappeared in 1960, when a buyer in Connecticut purchased the car. It then sat for over 60 years.
Today, this 135M retains its original, numbers-matching engine which the seller says turns freely, adding further that “the decision was made to not start it but indications are, it most likely would start with little effort.”
The car comes with documentation from Delahaye expert Jean-Paul Tissot, the president of the Associ Expert Socit des Automobiles Delahaye, “attesting to the provenance of the vehicle.”
