A lot of my junk mail comes with a nickle taped inside. How we handle that?

It's definitely a thing, but it's mostly targeted at older persons.

My Dad had hundreds of those letters around when he died.

It was probably much more than that. My Dad had dementia. He didn't open his mail. He just stored it in little plastic containers, and stacked them in the closets. Every closet was filled to the ceiling with unopened mail, mostly junk. Hundreds of boxes full of thousands of pieces of mail.

Lots of nickels. And donation requests to animal rights scams. And so many, many political fundraisers. And solar calculators. Dozens and dozens of them.

So is this 2k as sitting ready to go or 2k period? There is a difference.

In reply to Ranger50 :

I'm assuming it's $2K as it sits at the event (excluding things like tooling, consumables, supplies used but not on the car, discarded efforts, etc), like it always has been.

Is that what you meant?

Yes.
Asking because what about the drivetrain less or soon to be because it's almost broken projects. Sometimes it's just easier to buy another vehicle vs the pnp or even regular jy purchase route, just maybe not as cheap.

What about them, indeed. If you have one, or buy one, and have the budget left for a donor, have at it.

So is the whole vehicle donor budgeted at bought price or part used price towards the cash in pocket total?

I know how I'd budget sheet it regularly....

The idea is spend no more than $2000 cash. Period.

If you can buy the donor car within that $2k, buy it.

If you can buy only the part you need from the donor car, buy it.

You can't buy a donor car that puts you over budget but use only 1 part from the donor (and count only the value of that part).

Your answer is right, but reasoning is not.

The idea is to simplify this E36 M3. Its a 2k car. No explanations, exemptions, asterisks, creative budgets, algorithms of proration etc. No trades, good guys, self sales, recoup, etc.

We want to show new guys its truly the 2k challenge. Its not a front runner class. Its a run what ya brung class with super simple guidelines.

Yes, fmv and simple proration are fair. Cause we all have stuff in the stash, and fmv is well outlined in the rules. And 2 quarts of fluid from a 4 quart jug is simple math. But weighing the bodo dust off the floor to save budget isn't the point here. Hell, im keeping taxes in my budget because it came out of the envelope.

Simple enough?

Oh no... pairs of $600 junkers merged together to make a complete car type of budgeting question.

I can usually find a blown motor junker and a smashed/rusted one for a similar price.

If I understand the point of this discussion, you would have a $1200 car.

Here's a question about the "no exemptions" concept for this class.  If I score a set of cheap used tires I need to get them mounted.  If I go to my normal guy I'm sure I can get him to comp this set based on all of the other business I do there.  Since this is a cash-all-in, how do we propose to handle this?  Am I allowed to take a freebie?  Or if he charges $5 per tire to generate a receipt, will that be ok?

Covered in Challenge rules as if having tires mounted that aren't an exempt set. Labor you pay for counts. Free must be available to public, not just you. Donations are FMV.
