Pedal box looks really good.  I didn't expect the scratch-build, but with a kit like this why not?

I'm jumping between threads a little here, but what are you all making at your factory that requires a 3m x 9m router?  That's huge!

We build bullbats for semi trailers, all 6061 aluminium, all parts cut in house. We do most of the show trucks in Australia.

That's very cool.  Thanks for sharing.

Carry on with the race car parts!

Racing next weekend, got a couple of little jobs to tick off but otherwise ready, also my partners first race event so we'll see how she goes. Also got confirmation for an event in July that I'm really excited about running. 1.6km of twisty national  highway that rises 200m in that distance. To say I am excited is a major understatement!
it is the course I scoped out over my x-mas holidays and we will be throwing everything we have at it!!

More progress on the crosskart with the front suspension mounting tubes tacked in.

plate in front of upright tubes is the steering rack mount. Yes i have a tv in my garage and some rx8 goodness included.

Where else would you have the TV?

Also, I like to see that your steel tubing size is still printed in inch sizes.  'Murrcah!!

I noticed that too, actually i have to admit that i am reasonably fluent in both metric and sae. Dad was a tradie before Australia went metric so I grew up with inches and then did my trade in metric.

Some great projects and you have some lucky kids, getting all that Dad time and some cool vehicles. RX8 looks to be a great base, just let down by the rotary, the LS will be a big improvement

It's good to be bilingual.  I do most of my work in inch, but occasionally in metric.  A while back I got to design a robotic cell that was going to be installed in China, and it was 100% hard-metric.  It was actually really easy to work in.

a few more tubes in, this gives me the mounting points for front and rear suspension and A arms also known as what's required for a roller! Not that we're anywhere near a roller yet!

Time for an update! We went racing last weekend, round 1 of our local championship and had a great time as usual. Still fighting some suspension issues which was weird because everything was replaced over x-mas.

Also had a re-appearance of the gear selection issues I had on track last year, methinks something is screwy! So anyway with the issues we were having i was pretty happy to take out second in class with a new pb and a full second ahead of the pesky Hyundai's. My partner improved quickly over the weekend for her first time out and ended within two seconds of me.

On the monday I tore into the car determined to find the cause of the problems we'd had and the first obvious choice seemed like engine mounts, sure enough the gearbox side mount was missing a bolt and the remaining bolt was loose and had chewed out the hole it was in.

Cue some welding action to repair holes and reinstall the second bolt as well as add some bracing to  the mount and we are good to go again!!  I am thinking what I thought was suspension was actually the engine and box thrashing around trying to get free. The gearshift is also solid linkages so as the driveline moved it screwed up the alignment on the shifter!
Hopefully that is the end of the  issues and I can get power down now, need to do some more testing.

Anyone else having problems with the image uploader? Preview screen comes up with a page of greek / latin something. Sizing is also weird!

They updated the board software.  The magic trick seems to be clearing the cache if you're uploading from your phone.

Edit: I copied this from another thread.  Forgot this one, but I've used it and it works too:

"Others seem to have had luck in adding their photos, hitting the Post button, then after the post has been added, hitting the Edit button. Apparently they don't actually have to make any changes; just hitting the edit button, and then Post to close the editor, works to resize the images."

weded up rear gearbox mount, has certainly stopped engine movement, and made inside the car a much louder experience!

Which brings us up to this week, spent my afternoons on the lathe machining the bushes for the crosskart pedal box. These are exactly the same as the double a arm mounts all over the chassis so I have 19 of theses to make!

wich means that now the pedals have bushes! Need to get some bolts though, don't think scrutineering will like my drill bits!

Looking good.

That was quite the story about the engine mounts.  Definitely shows how bad they can affect handling.  I'm glad you figured it out and got it corrected.

Last of the engine mounts done and entry in for round two of our club series! Also spent some time removing a few seams in the front arches that were causing some tyre damage so hopefully no more of that.
Back on the lathe now to make 16 more of those bushes for the a-arm suspension on the crosskart, 4 per corner. Hopefully have enough material left over to make at least one of the front stub axles.

Huge weekend on the barina, got the lightweight race battery in and wired with electronic emergency cut off. Tested ok so thumbs up on that one. Probably should put another shut off on the alternator wire as well but won't  get used very often so should be ok......

also spent time on the gear shift, trying to shorten the shift and increase accuracy. After many hours both goals were achieved by remaking bushes and moving the pivot point so win win. All set for next weekend!

Update from a big weekend of racing, saturday was overcast with the odd shower so times were slower that usual, at one point i threatened to put the road wheels back on and run it.

the afternoon cleared up and the track dried enough to get back down near my previous pb 52.9's. Meaning i had one in the bank at least.

Big rain overnight for Sunday so the crew went out and cleaned up the track and we started. First run out was a 53, 2nd run another 53, and the battle for second began! The hyundai put down a 52.71, same round  i ran a 52.68. Next run i put down a new PB 52.12 thinking i had 2nd nailed i took a break to focus on my partners runs.

Jodie had put in a 53.99 on Saturday but had an off track excursion on wet grass on slicks first run sunday so gave herself a bit of a fright. She came back later with a 54.2 so getting back to form before finishing the day with her new Pb 53.8.

unfortunately thy hyundai came back in the last run with a 51.9 so there went second place! I slipped back to 3rd with Jodie in 4th.

great weekend topped off with gelato with the kids to celebrate double PB's

State titles end of next month, looking to up the rev limit with a lightweight  flywheel and some other mods , save me needing to shift a couple of times.

Thanks Scott, we are trying! I think some pictures went up on Facebook etc. I am notoriously bad at remembering to take photos!

Happy to announce we have a new sponsor on the car, however they are a detailing company so I really should up my game on the paint side i guess! Plans are underway to give the car a facelift in the next month, fingers crossed the weather stays nice.

Well Saturday testing was a complete pointless exercise, a wet track with with a few drops still coming down made it very hard to get any meaningful data on the new springs, tyre temps or anything else.

Track was slippery  with the semi slicks on and in the second run i managed to spin it about 1/8mile down the hill! You can see the in car on our Facebook page, unfortunately no-one got any external footage. And I still don't know if I've got the setup right or not. Guess we'll find out at the end of the month.

And a couple photos of the 400lb springs (yellow) vs the 185lb springs (red)
