Not much of a hammer, they took away a cheaty win and? Nothing.
Internal investigation then Oops, sorry. We forgot we had a thing and we cheated with it, we won't do it again. Cheating, even 'accidental' cheating, needs a bigger penalty than this.
A win taken away in Indycar is pretty huge, really. Plus, I'm sure there was a monetary fine as well

$75k. I presume only the 500 and "the thermal" pay sizeable prize money so yeah, if you aren't a Fortune 500 company I guess that's real money. I KNOW they didn't mean to cheat until they DID, but what do you think F1 would do? What would this be like if AJ Foyt's team made an honest mistake then hit the button to use the unfair advantage, more than once?
I'm an F1 fan but Indycars on short ovals are such a spectacle, E36 M3 happens real fast!
Anyway, I đź’• Indy 500, I admire the Captain. I wish they didn't knock down Nazareth- what a short life that track had! I wish they would come back to Pocono, the race after the repave a few years ago was incredible, if incredibly sad (RIP Justin). I wish I could go to The Milwaukee Mile when they return this year.
Interesting perspective from an Indycar engineer.
tl; dr, It's an easy mistake to make, and if they wanted to cover it up, they could have done it very easily.
On Hinch and Rossi's latest podcast, they mentioned that Josef is known for hitting the P2P button all the time, whether it's enabled or not. He apparently talks about it openly. Of course, they also said that if it worked when it shouldn't have, he definitely would have noticed.
In reply to Tom_Spangler (Forum Supporter) :
On Off Track both Hinch and Rossi said that they don't claim the drivers, and at least Hinch admitted that he, and every other driver he know would have used it if they could. It sounds like it wasn't inadvertent by the team.

Pocono is way, way too fast for those cars. Profoundly dangerous. Other than Indy, they should never race on anything either too long, or too highly banked. Flat mile or mile and a half, OK. 12 or more degrees of banking, nothing over a mile.
Good race at Barber today. Plenty of action and wheel-banging. And a mannequin.
Yep, pour one out for Georgina.
When I ran a WRL race there a few years back, I was talking to a track worker who was telling me all about the 'art' around the track. When he told me about Georgina hanging from the walkway, I thought "Man, that's a little morbid." It wasn't until the next day when I got on track that I saw she was hanging by her hands, and not the old west style of hanging.
In reply to racerfink :
I thought it was some Lemons crap can racing left over, however I know that "art" is subjective. I am sort of curious about the other art around the track.
I would catch her out of the corner of my eye while racing there. It always made me do a Double take because it looked like a flag.
Scotty and Georgina got to spend some time together after the race:
ARROW MCLAREN RELEASES MALUKAS; NO REPLACEMENT NAMED I am really disappointed for Dave, I watched him in his karting days, when he raced the Merlin chassis. I hope he can rehab soon and get into a car.
It really sucks. I can see from McLaren's standpoint, they can't wait forever, but man. Must be one hell of a broken wrist. Makes me wonder if there was some nerve damage or something bigger going on with it. A broken bone shouldn't take this long to heal.

Unless the repair was done wrong. Which seems hard to believe, given who they would choose to do the repair.... But it could happen.
Very much a bummer to not get a chance for reasons like that.

McLaren have been my team since birth as my father worked for Bruce McLaren in the early 60s. I followed them for decades in F1. I was always a Hinch fan, so supported Schmidt Peterson. These days Pato is 'my guy' to root for. love Rossi and was delighted to be there for his 500 win. The problem is Pato is driving like an idiot. Rossi is simply slow And the team keep making stupid mistakes. Now yet again they, I think, unfairly cut someone loose. My favorite team and drivers are making it really hard to root for the right now.

McLaren Indycar is making Andretti look like they can head the pack in F1.
That being said, someone needs to remind me why Andretti and/or Herta should be in F1. Other than the name, they don't seem to bring any special competence above and beyond any nominal Indycar team and driver.

Andretti should be there because they have the money, the backing from GM, and the desire. Isn't that enough? I mean, why should Haas or Williams or half of the teams in F1 be there? Because they are already there? That's not much of a reason.
Herta, I can't argue with. More promise than delivery from him so far. Though he is leading the points right now.

I see why McLaren cut him from a business perspective. There's no clear date as to when he will be a le to race again, and it makes no sense to pour time and money into substitute drivers and then start over again when malukas is better (there will obviously be a learning curve for when he gets back)
It's still early enough in the season that it makes sense to bring someone into that seat full time and put the effort and development into them. It's super unfortunate for everyone, but at the end of the day it's a business that is result driven.

AA as a team has multiple driver championships in indycar and other series, 500 wins, is bringing in a new manufacturer and has one of the most famous last names, other then bitterness and Eurocentrism, not sure why he can't have a f1 team. Honestly why AA wants a F1 team, I don't understand, he could easily field a Nascar team yesterday.
As much as I like Logan S. and Jak C, Herta is well known and currently leading the indycar championship( leading many former F1 and F2 drivers that "should be in F1") . Since at AA Herta has clearly been the best of the rest, even when AA wasn't great. While I think that F1 has some high caliber drivers, I have been watching since 93 it was very rare that the best car on the best team didn't win the race. I don't think AA is going to have the best car in F1, nor do I think Herta is going to win a f1 race and would need luck to score a point. I don't seem him any more worse then Stroll, Yuki, Zhou, Kmags, Nico Hulk, or Logan? Stroll out of all of them was the last to podium. In a very weak F2 series Kimi A. is sitting in 9th place and is supposed to be the next Hamilton

If we were in 2010, your point would be more valid. They haven't done anything consistently for a really long time.

Haas was doing well in nascar when they went f1. So their recent history was good as far as real commitment. Mike- not so much. Can't really expect anything but not making the field at 107% right now. And no clear sign that he'll actually commit technical anything to do it.
Again, if it were Penske or Ganassi, at least they have history of recent technical competence in a series where the cars are a decade old. Mike can't even bother to find the right resources to win.

You're not wrong about Andretti's recent performance. But that's not why they've been excluded, is it?
In reply to alfadriver :
AA has won at every level, Penske and CGR are the equivalent of RB, Ferrari, and Mercedes, they are not easy to beat and are extremely consistent.
AA was FE championship team 22-23
AA Indy lights championship 18,19 (20 canceled) and 21.
They dominated Rallycross 2014-19
Haas as 3 championships total 2011, 2014, and Xfinity in 2023, since entering in 2002. They are by no means Penske or Hendrick
