Talking about whether or not anyone buys music anymore made me think about my cousin up in NYC.

I try to stream her songs as often as possible (mainly because I really enjoy her songs), though it's probably about time I order an album or too...

Does anyone else have talented family members they'd like to show off? The talent doesn't have to be music-related of course. (Bonus points if they sell anything, though, as I'm always down for helping out a fellow artist.)

Hey, I also have a cousin up in New York who makes music. (He’s the one with the red guitar.)

I have a cousin who is an independent animator, she co-founded her own company called Sunshine Mall.

Growing up, her parents owned and operated a little country corner convenience store, and much inspiration for characters was "drawn" from that experience.

Slightly different but a nephew is a national tv reporter.  Odd/cool to turn on the TV and see him.

Somewhat music related: My sister danced all through school (ballet, tap, hip-hop, contemporary/lyrical). While in middle school, she was a Barney cast member (Hannah), and still gets recognized for it. After graduating with a dance minor from Texas A&M, she opened her own dance studio, and is celebrating her 15th year in operation this year.

If you live in the Wylie, Texas area and have kids interested in dance, please look her up. In my totally unbiased opinion, she's the best around. Her business is a class act, and the recitals are production masterpieces.

My son has earned a couple Emmy awards for his video work.

My DiL has had her photos printed in Smithsonian.

My brother was Wes Craven's assistant (which means he had screen time and quite a bit of time in the director's chair).  Producer for "New Nightmare", "Nightmare Cafe" and "Vampire in Brooklyn"

My cousin (who was raised with me like a brother) is the President of FX Network. (30 years of producing including shows like West Wing, Friends, and JAG)

My father was a jazz musician.

I've been the special effects coordinator on several movies. (That doesn't count, but it was fun!).  I have 72 shows on my theatrical resume.

Self portraits, about 45 years apart.

My brother's portrait of Bob Marley. I don't know why it's rotated when the others were okay. Obviously some bugs to sort on the new server.

My great grandmother painted this when she was 16, in about 1880.

My sister has a vocal performance degree from Julliard.

That's super cool, actually. I can only hope I'm successful enough to have something like an IMDb page someday.

Actually a few books written about my family and all the inventions and businesses started by them over the years. From the invention of call waiting, to dry cleaning, war hero's, investment bankers, MRI machines all sorts of stuff.

I can comfortably say that I am on the bottom 20% of my family in terms of making money and being an entrepreneur. Much happier then they are though when we meet up for the family gatherings. My generation all went after jobs in civil service, poverty law and science not just chasing money. Which is great because I love all the ones around my age and younger.

We are stellar at being average.  At one point in my thirties I was the exact national average by several measures.

Age, weight, height, number of kids and pets, income, home value, etc.  Happy to report that I'm above average now.

Is your assumed name Not Sure? smiley

I may be (extemely) loosely related by someone else's marriage to a certain musician and another certain actor.  I have never met them so it is more like useless trivia.  Go far back enough and everyone is related to everyone else after all.

One of my something-removed cousins is big in US politics.  My mom is huge on ancestry and he ended up helping her translate some handwritten German notes on the back of photographs from the 1800s.

Aside from that... everyone in my immediate family is related to me smiley

My MIL has a cousin who played drums in a couple pretty well known bands in the nineties; Temple of the Dog and Soundgarden; session work for others like David Gilmore and I believe played with Pearl Jam live most of the 2000's. I've never met him.

Lest we forget, CWH.  If you don't live under a rock you probably have heard his nephew playing music.

Back in the day, Nirvana did a show in Miami outdoors. We had backstage passes, so it was pretty cool. Got to meet Courtney Love. One sad skank. They had recording stuff set up out in the audience, so I had to go check it out. OK, cool. Then we headed back to the stage area. Old fart that I am, did not know about mosh pit. We walked right into it. Some punk slammed my wife, knocking her down. I picked her up and swung as hard as I could, broke his nose rather nicely. Cop came over to see why he was crying so loud, look at old fart and wife, smiled, and walked away.

I remember him posting pictures from a family gathering (a birthday party, maybe) with said nephew standing casually in the background.

We have a number of very talented artists, several painters and a few of us play music, but our most acclaimed is Uncle Claude.  He was a well-known bird carver with around 5000 pieces spread throughout the world; from homes to museums.  Last month, after 20 years of searching, I finally assembled a complete collection of the 45 bird species he carved.  He's been featured in many newspapers and publications.  Here's some magazine excerpts:

My nephew, as a junior, brought home a couple of service rifle trophies from his first trip to the National Matches at Camp Perry.  He's now a CMP Distinguished Rifleman.  About 8500 people have earned that honor - since 1884.  That's about 60/year.

In other words, he knows his way around a service rifle.
