Anyone mess with air rifles here?  I have a 10 shot Gamo Swarm in .177 that has been my go to for the chipmunks that try to make homes in my vinyl siding and under my shed.  I've started to have problems with raccoons lately and they seem to be too smart or too strong for my traps.  I just picked a PCP air rifle to be my Raccoon Remover 3000 Air Venturi Avenger in 25 cal, 8 shot magazine, side lever action. Dead quiet and laser accurate compared to my break barrel Gamo.

A decent scope and you will be fine.  You may need a bit more magnification than someone else.  I  have glasses and don't have any issues.  I like to get scopes that are a bit over-magnified rather than under.  You can always dial it back a little.  Also, most scopes, and especially LPVO's, have more distortion at the extreme ends of their range, especially in the less expensive ones.  In some cases, getting a cheaper scope with a bit more magnification is cheaper than a high-quality one in which you are running out to the max magnification.

I have a Umarex Notos that I use for small pests.  It's impressively accurate.

For something raccoon sized, I'd just use one of my .22s with a suppressor, but a .25 cal airgun will probably get it done.

I went with the Ruger and was not disappointed at all.

I found a Ruger Gen2 Ranch in town this morning, and it looks like a pretty decent rifle, and a really great value.  I ended up ordering a Rem 700 SPS Tactical...  the deciding factor for me was the much better aftermarket for the Remington, especially triggers.  I have a Triggertech in my Bergara 6.5CM and love it.  They don't make one for the Ruger.

If your friend decides on an AR, this is a smokin' deal at $479 with free shipping:  PSA 16" 5.56

I have basically the identical rifle.  I swapped in a Geissele trigger and with a 1-10x LPVO it's an MOA rifle with decent ammo.

He's been looking at those pretty hard, too. We put him behind a couple ARs last weekend just to try them out.

I have a break barrel Gamo, and I need to get it out and try one more time to sight it in.  I've never been able to get it to group very tightly.  Makes a bit of a noise also.  Believe it's .22 cal.

Not sure I'm in the market for another air rifle, but I'm curious to know how accurate they can be, since my Gamo is disappointing in that regard.

Man I totally missed the air rifle revolution. Theyve got .95caliber air rifles that fire a 2500gr bullet now! Or at least it's releasing soon.

That's insane

Got out with my Sierra loads today. Found a window to explore where it was holding 1.5" groups. Now to fine tune the charge and start experimenting with head spacing.
.308 is fun. It's been a while.

Mine is the basic model.  Bought it from Wally World late in the last Millennium.  It's a great little rifle.

Mounted an old Weaver rimfire scope I got from my uncle using the DNZ scope mount.  It's crazy accurate with good ammo.  Best I've found so far is the SK Long Range Match.

Over on the S&W forums the new Colt revolvers are pretty well regarded by those who have bought them.  Not much on the Viper yet (too new), but IIRC it's the same frame as the King Cobra, just with a non-underlug barrel?

Built a 10/22 a few years back.  Custom laminated stock with bedded action and floated 1" match barrel.  Added a rowdy drop in 1.5lb trigger.  The scope is about to get upgraded from the Bushnel 6-18x50 dusk till dawn to a beefcake unit.

The NLR Match stuff out to 300yards means I need 40 MOA (13' of drop adjustment).  I thought this was a mean machine till I showed up to the competition with my dope cards and looked like a dope vs the machines the others brought out.

Side note - be smarter than me.  Never purchase an unfinished laminate stock to save money.  I would rather sand concrete than work on that harder than diamonds material ever again.  The final polish came from Mothers aluminum polish if that puts it in perspective.  I didn't have fingertip skin for months.

Saw the ad in American Rifleman.  A fixed sight stainless 3" 357 Magnum has my DNA all over it...

I have a hankering for a steel frame pistol. My LGS has a CZ 75 SP01 that caught my eye.

I figured I would ask the hive. What other options should I consider? Use will be a range toy and possible framing hammer laugh

Browning Hi-Power or one of the modern incarnations thereof?  I hear the Springfield Armory SA-35 reviews pretty well.
