"You run ahead and I'll catch up, man.

Still so much left for me to do.

Get used to the night."

From Nathaniel Rateliff& The Night Sweats "Get Used to the Night.

Not his intent with the song, but to me telling another that you'll get together later, some other time, because you have so damn much to finish. Get used to the night because that's the only time you have left. In the night, I'm not Dad, or husband. I'm not a plumber or a mechanic. Not needed to do things for others, I'm just alone for a few hours. A few hours of peace to just be me. So get used to the night.

That is really cool. One of the most important and best nights of my life was the night I discovered Guy Clark - we were going to see Lyle Lovett, John Hiatt, and Joe Ely at a concert and some old guy we'd never heard of was with them on the bill. Turns out that guy was Guy, and the other three were with him rather than vice versa. I never got to see him live again, but I have been lucky enough to see Verlon Thompson a few times and jam with him twice as well.

Listen close to "Anyhow I love you," there is a male singer harmonizing with some high notes at the end of the song. Same guy who was playing the Tele on that track, a little known Texas musician called Waylon Jennings.

From Snuff by Slipknot. The live version is very powerful...

So, save your breath, I will not hear
I think I made it very clear
You couldn't hate enough to love
Is that supposed to be enough?
I only wish you weren't my friend
Then I could hurt you in the end
I never claimed to be a saint
Ooh, my own was banished long ago
It took the death of hope to let you go

This one is great because it's one of the most misunderstood songs of all time, largely due to the singer.

Angel by Sara McLachlan

It became the sad puppy dog song because of her SPCA commercials that almost ruined the song. But it's about heroin addiction-

"It was inspired by articles that she read in Rolling Stone about musicians turning to heroin to cope with the pressures of the music industry and subsequently overdosing, most notably Jonathan Melvoin, a keyboardist for the Smashing Pumpkins, who died of an overdose in 1996."

So tired of the straight line
And everywhere you turn
There's vultures and thieves at your back
And the storm keeps on twisting
You keep on building the lies
That you make up for all that you lack
It don't make no difference
Escaping one last time

It's easier to believe
In this sweet madness

Oh this glorious sadness
That brings me to my knees

Breathe deep the gathering gloom
Watch lights fade from every room
Bedsitter people look back and lament
Another day's useless energy spent

Impassioned lovers wrestle as one
Lonely man cries for love and has none
New mother picks up and suckles her son
Senior citizens wish they were young

Cold-hearted orb that rules the night
Removes the colors from our sight
Red is gray and yellow white
But we decide which is right
And which is an illusion

We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I (do I)
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

We've known each other for so long
Your heart's been aching, but you're too shy to say it (say it)
Inside, we both know what's been going on (going on)
We know the game and we're gonna play it

And if you ask me how I'm feeling
Don't tell me you're too blind to see

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

All men (all men)
All men are liars their words ain't worth no more than worn out tires
Hey girls (girls) bring rusty pliers to pull this tooth
All men are liars and that's the truth

Do you remember rick astley?
He had a big fat hit that was ghastly
He said I'm never gonna give you up or let you down
Well I'm here to tell ya that dick's a clown
Though he was just a boy when he made that vow
I'd bet it all that he knows by now

All men (all men)
All men are liars their words ain't worth no more than worn out tires
Hey girls (girls) bring rusty pliers to pull this tooth
All men are liars and that's the truth

Among god's creatures man must be
The most slimy and slippery now
There stands the naked ape in a monkey suite
Behind a little mustache he grew, the shifty brute
All the ones not choking on the words they ate
Are aweating on getting their stories straight

All men (all men)
All men are liars their words ain't worth no more than worn out tires
Hey girls (girls) bring rusty pliers to pull this tooth
All men are liars and that's the truth

All men (all men)
All men are liars their words ain't worth no more than worn out tires
Hey girls (girls) bring rusty pliers to pull this tooth
All men are liars and all men are liars, all men are liars, all men are liars
And that's the truth

I'm getting tired of you
You're getting tired of me
And it's the final act
Of our little tragedy
So don't feign indignation
It's a fait accompli
You can screw everybody I've ever known
But I still won't talk to you on the phone
It's a hopeless cause--there's no use crying
And I can die, you can die
We can die trying
Thanks anyway, no use hangin' around
You try to put the finishing touches on me

You say it's all my fault
Who's keeping score?
Some people like to be punished
They keep coming back for more
But I'm sick & tired
And my cock is sore
You can screw everybody
I've ever known
But I still won't talk to you on the phone
It's a hopeless cause--there's no use crying
And I can die, you can die
We can die trying
Thanks anyway, no use hangin' around
You try to put the finishing touches on me

Thanks anyway
No use hangin' around
You try to put the finishing touches on me
Thanks anyway . . .
Finishing touches, finishing touches on me

Amazingly, the local rock station in Philly played this song when it was released as the first single from the Mr Bad Example album (another song with awesome lyrics)... apparently without listening to it first.  After it faded out, the DJ just said, "So Warren... a little angry?" ...They never played it again.
