What do you do when someone you know buys a rare sports car that you wish you could drive? Well, if you are Mickey Thompson and Bill Burke, you apparently make a plaster mold of it so you can sell fiberglass copies to the public.
This 1952 MG "Cisitalia" Special features one such fiberglass body produced by Allied (formerly Atlas) and based upon Bob Petersen’s 1946 Cisitalia 202 Coupe.
Specifically, the MG Special was made to be used on an MG TD chassis, the only example known to have been produced.
Equipped with a race-spec 1496cc, MG TF inline-four engine, this 1952 MG "Cisitalia" Special by Allied is available through RM Sotheby’s upcoming Hershey auction, with an expected selling price of $60,000-$70,000.
Whoever they built that for must have been one tall guy - that roll bar is built to fit Big Bird!
Styling looks to be based on a Cisitalia 202 and the use of what looks like an Austin Healey 100 windscreen works quite well. And the engine used was likely at least as powerful as the original used on that odel.
Went looking up the Cisitalia 202. For a 1946 design, I could easily believe the styling was something from 20 years later. Pretty rare for a "futuristic" car to actually nail what cars of the future would look like.
Aside from the big bird roll hoop I love it.
