I am attending the first public display of this gem on Thursday evening, along with a presentation by it's designer and constructor, one Paul Wilson. He is one of us, underneath is an Alfa Romeo 6C2500 that he acquired 40 years ago with a decrepid body. Hand fabricated in his home garage, to be presented at the Lars Anderson Museum.

OK, you made me work for that one. I have not seen that plane before and I did not recognize the insignia (clearly somewhere northern). Turns out that is the insignia of Norway, and yes, that is a Saab MFI-15 Safari.
Looks like a pretty nice plane, seems like a good surplus import option. A nice compromise between a high and low wing. The door and the mid-tail horizontal stabilizer are interesting design choices. Forward swept wings also.
Looks like the door is just cargo, the canopy does swing up.

For easy, fast exit? My first glider had a rear hinged canopy, a friend sat in it "Yeah, tight in here". I offered that I was afraid I couldn't climb out quickly in emergencies. "Release the belts, pull the canopy levers, slam the stick hard left or right, once you're upside down, you're coming out?"
